1 year anniversary of the European Digital Education Hub

This June, the European Digital Education Hub celebrates its 1-year anniversary together with its 2000+ members. Have a look back at the main highlights from the past year and get a sneak peek at the upcoming Hub activities!

A European community of practice

The Hub brings together practitioners, researchers, experts and policy makers in digital education from all over Europe. Everyone is welcome in this inclusive community of practice, even those who are simply interested in the topic.

"I am so happy I discovered the Hub. It's a great place to learn and connect."

Cristina Obae, Genesis College, Romania

Thematic working groups and workshops

The Hub's working groups (or "squads") have been a great success - the squad on AI in particular attracting 6 times more applications than places available. Every squad brings together participants with diverse expertise and backgrounds who share a common interest in the assigned topic. Participants collaborate online and in person during dedicated workshops, and create white papers, reports and presentations which are shared with the Hub community.

In its first year, the Hub organised a total of 6 squads, of which the following 4 are currently ongoing:

  • Micro-credentials
  • Artificial intelligence in education
  • Digital skills
  • Interoperability

The next squad will focus on sustainability in digital education. You can still apply until 27 June.

For each squad theme, the Hub aims to organise in person workshops that bring together practitioners and experts interested on the topic at stake. So far, the Hub organised 4 community workshops in Tallinn (Estonia), Brussels (Belgium), Berlin (Germany) and Barcelona (Spain).

Upcoming workshops:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) in education - Bucharest (Romania)
  • Digital skills - Brussels (Belgium)

Clinics and mentorships

The Hub offers tailor-made support to its members in the form of online clinics and mentorships.

In the first year, the Hub organised peer-learning sessions on topics including:

  • synchronous hybrid education
  • blended education
  • online and distance education
  • micro-credentials

So great to have this service offered by extremely experienced professionals.

Webinars

The Hub is also there to help members build their knowledge in digital education. 13 webinars have been organised in the first year of the Hub and in total, gathered more than 600 participants. The webinars addressed some of the hottest topics in the field including digital skills, curriculum development, micro-credentials, the digital gender gap and AI. The most popular webinar had the theme “The Myths and the Potential of AI in Education” and gathered 120 attendees.

The next webinar will take place on 6 June 2023 at 14:00 CET with the theme “Designing open online learning: inside of MOOCs”, during which participants will discuss about massive open online courses (MOOC).

Teachers as researchers

With its “Teachers as researchers” activities, the Hub offers a format of collaborative knowledge sharing and knowledge building. All educators from all sectors are welcome to join, including teachers, school principals, designers, instructional coaches. In a “Teachers as researchers” session, participants investigate educational practices and challenges with peers. In the first year of the Hub, 30 workshops have been organised with nearly 300 participants. The next session will take place in June!
