How to join an alumni network and kickstart your career in Europe
Thinking about your future career while you’re studying in Europe? Alumni networks can give you access to a community of professionals who can guide, advise, and support you in your move from education to work.
Why join an alumni network?
You may have heard of alumni networks as being social groups - ways to stay in contact with students from your university after you leave.
While this is true, alumni networks are more than that. They also provide:
- career guidance and mentoring from experienced professionals
- job opportunities and internships that might not be advertised elsewhere
- networking events and workshops to develop professional skills
- insights into different industries and international career paths
As a member of a network, you can learn from people who have been in your shoes and are now working across Europe and beyond. You can also share experiences, exchange ideas, and gain inspiration for your own career journey.
For non-EU students, they’re also an excellent way to build professional connections in Europe, explore career opportunities, and even find mentors who understand the challenges of studying abroad.
Who can join?
Most universities welcome both domestic and international students into their alumni networks.
How to get started
Check your university’s website or career services to see if they offer an alumni network. Attend events, join online forums, and reach out to mentors. Being proactive is key!
There are also some European Alumni Networks to explore:
Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA) - connects alumni of Erasmus Mundus programmes, offering professional development and networking opportunities worldwide.
European Universities Community (EUC) Alumni Network - brings together alumni from European universities to share experiences, career advice, and opportunities.
EU Business School Alumni Network - offers global networking, career support, and entrepreneurship resources for graduates.
Best of luck with your networking!
