Artificial intelligence and its impact on higher education

The webinar is connected to HEInnovate, a tool of the European Strategy for Universities.

About the webinar

The focus of this webinar is to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to enhance teaching and learning and revolutionise higher education institutions.

Guest speakers will explore the different strategies that higher education institutions can take to encourage AI in teaching and why this is important.

They will discuss about:

  • how teachers can integrate AI into students’ learning experiences
  • how higher education institutions can offer support to teachers in this AI integration

About the speakers

Helen Hint is a lecturer in academic literacy at the University of Tartu. Her research background in linguistics, she earned her PhD from the University of Tartu, where her thesis explored the Estonian referential system. More recently, she has worked in the field of writing research, focusing on Estonian academic writing. Helen Hint's work also extends to promoting digital and AI literacy, fostering critical engagement with technology in academic and educational contexts. She is the leader of the AI in teaching working group at the University of Tartu.

Margarida Romero is an associate professor at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and full professor at Université Côte d'Azur. After starting her career at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, where she was awarded the best doctoral thesis in psychology, she continued her career in Canada and France. She coordinates the #Scol_IA Working Group on the educational challenges of artificial intelligence in education and co-directs the international MSc SmartEdTech program. Her research focuses on the study of transversal competencies, particularly in relation to computational thinking and creative problem-solving.

The webinar is linked to HEInnovate, a tool of the European Strategy for Universities. HEInnovate is an EU initiative in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The topic of this webinar aligns with the “Digital Transformation and Capability” dimension of HEInnovate, which underlines the importance of higher education institutions integrating, optimising and transforming digital technologies to support innovation and entrepreneurship.
