6 scholarship application tips
There are many scholarship programmes available in Europe for international students who wish to study here.
Some programmes cover a part of your tuition fee, while others cover full cost of your tuition fees and your living costs. It is recommended to check per scholarship what costs are covered.
Discover our scholarships and costs page to find out about the main places to find European higher education scholarships and funding opportunities.
Apply for multiple scholarships
You can apply for more than one scholarship at a time. By applying for multiple scholarships, you will increase your chances of being accepted to a scholarship.
However, some scholarships will not allow you to hold another scholarship at the same time. Keep this in mind and carefully check the eligibility criteria of any scholarship you are applying for.
Check the eligibility criteria
Always check if you are eligible to apply for the scholarship before submitting an application. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria and you apply for the scholarship anyway, your efforts will be in vain.
Your current higher education institution or host higher education institution may be able to help you assess whether you are eligible to apply.
Meet application deadlines
After checking whether you are eligible for a scholarship, make sure to note the deadlines of the scholarship(s) you are applying for.
If you miss a deadline, you miss the chance to get the scholarship for this application round.
Gather application materials well in advance
Make sure that you have prepared all the requested documents well in advance of the application deadline.
Deadlines approach fast! It is useful to make a plan to ensure that you are able to deliver all the required information and documents on time.
Write a well-written and personal motivation letter
Your motivation letter should be well-written, of high quality, original and personal. Additionally, it should comply with any requirements of the organisation to which you’re applying.
Introduce yourself in your letter and highlight your accomplishments. Double-check your motivation letter and if you can, share your letter with someone to read it before you submit.
Keep trying!
Don’t be discouraged if you’re not accepted for a scholarship. Do not give up. Keep applying!
