Quality education and training for all

Tell me why I should (not) follow your recommendation

Join an interactive webinar on the role of explainable AI in supporting learner and educator decision-making, with guest expert Hasan Abu-Rasheed.

Explainable Artificial Intelligence to support decision-making

Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) can influence learners’ acceptance and adoption of learning recommendations. However, the goal of XAI in education is not to "justify" the learning recommendation generated by an AI model, but rather to explain the inner workings of the model to the learner and educator. This allows them to make an informed decision about accepting, modifying, or even rejecting the recommendation.

Webinar topics

During this one-hour webinar, we will

  • dive into the collaborative decision-making process between education stakeholders (educators and learners) and artificial intelligence
  • focus on how explainable recommendations can empower learners’ agency over the learning decisions and personalise their learning
  • discover an example of an implementation of these concepts from our recent research in the field of vocational education and training.

This is a poster event and part of the European Digital Education Hub’s collaborative inquiry activities.

Guest speaker: Hasan Abu-Rasheed

Hasan Abu-Rasheed is a research associate and doctoral researcher in the University of Siegen, Germany. With his teaching experience, and his background in computer science and mechatronics engineering, he positioned his research within the fields of technology enhanced learning (TEL) and AI in education (AIED).

His main focus is developing XAI approaches for supporting education stakeholders with more agency over the decision-making process. For this purpose, he utilises a set of technologies, including knowledge graphs, recommender systems and conversational agents (chatbots), to develop explainable decision-support systems for learners and educators.

Who can join

The event is open to anyone active in the field of education who is curious about the various challenges focusing on XAI.

Participants may include:

  • teachers
  • education practitioners
  • researchers
  • policy makers
  • any member of the European Digital Education Hub community

Practical information

The webinar will take place on 19 December 2024, 11.00-12.00 CET.

This event is only available to registered Hub members. Hub membership will be granted within 5 working days.
