Stakeholder input sought on enhancing the European Institute of Innovation and Technology
A call for evidence has been opened to revise both the Regulation governing the EIT and the EIT Strategic Innovation Agenda.
About the consultation
This consultation aims to gather insights from various stakeholders, including public authorities, businesses, academia, and research organisations, before making the final proposal. Interested parties are encouraged to participate by sharing their views through the Have Your Say portal.
The new Regulation is expected to be adopted in December 2026. It aims to enhance the EIT's ability to support Europe's competitiveness and address evolving priorities. In particular, it seeks to
- reinforce the EIT as a more flexible, impact-driven and strategically aligned instrument
- strengthen innovation ecosystems through deeper integration of education, research and business
- improve the translation of knowledge into innovation and market uptake
- reinforce entrepreneurial education and skills development
- strengthen complementarity with other EU innovation instruments.
It also aims to reduce unnecessary complexity, improve governance and oversight, and support regional innovation capacity and convergence across Europe.
Feedback
The Commission is inviting stakeholders to provide feedback on the identified challenges and possible solutions, including:
- how the EIT and its Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) can better strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and innovation ecosystems
- how they can better support Europe’s attractiveness for talent, innovators and entrepreneurs
- how they can better collaborate with other EU innovation instruments and programmes in the next MFF
- what changes to the funding and implementation model could improve flexibility, governance, simplicity and impact
