European Commission looking to scale up innovation digital education solutions

The European Digital Education Hub has opened a call for applications to its accelerator programme. Innovators from all education sectors are encouraged to submit their innovative digital education solutions. Selected applicants will benefit from an intensive training and testing programme.

What will the education practices experienced by the next generations look like? The Digital Education Accelerator helps education and training sectors to take substantial steps to make their digital education practices more innovative, by accelerating a hand-picked selection of creative prototypes.

Who can participate?

The call for applications is open now to a broad range of different stakeholders.

Teams of a minimum of two people, who can be educators, researchers, developers, or other innovators should apply. Applicants must present an idea that is developed enough to be tested in a simulated environment after a couple of months.

Education technology providers and other start-up teams that have a well-developed solution that is not yet scaled across Europe may also apply.

The Digital Education Accelerator aims to bring together different stakeholders from various backgrounds to create an environment, in which learning driven by technology solutions occurs.

Themes

Based on the Digital Education Action Plan and observations of the biggest needs and opportunities for innovation in the digital education landscape, the 2022 Digital Education Accelerator focusses on three themes

  • underserved and vulnerable groups
  • engagement in (digital) education
  • 21st century skills

The selected prototypes are expected to address at least one of the above themes. You can read more about the themes in the detailed call for applications.

Programme

The Digital Education Accelerator is an intensive training and testing programme divided into two stages

  • stage 1: September - December 2022
  • stage 2: December 2022 - February 2023

What’s in it for me?

Stage 1: Team training

For the most part, the programme will run online in the form of weekly coaching sessions. It includes a face-to-face training week scheduled for early October 2022 (to be confirmed), taking place in Tallinn, Estonia.

Besides receiving support from the programme coaches, the participants will receive mentoring from international experts in pedagogy and business.

Stage 2: Solution testing

At the second stage, the prototypes are tested in a unique environment. This stage will engage real testers in hands-on activities with the prototypes. The testing environments are tailored to match each team’s expectations and needs.

The programme does not offer direct funding. However, the teams will receive support in finding relevant funding opportunities and in working on their financial plans to develop their solutions.

Showcase opportunities

The programme features ‘Demo Days’, during all prototypes will be presented to multi-stakeholder audiences and test groups. Moreover, a selection of top prototypes will engage with a larger audience at an education event in Europe (to be defined).
